Planet Keeper Aims & Activities

'Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis'
Times change, and we must change in them (Latin)

The Earth, like all of the Universe, is in constant flux, or state of change. A baby is born, an old man dies; a mountain range erodes away, an earthquake pushes new land above the sea; a star goes supernova, and new stars form;  the last of his kind, a mighty Emperor dies unregretted - and a chimpanzee mother watches puzzled as her baby makes music by striking shells with a stick; all is change, all is renewal, all is life.

Mankind cannot stop this process, and Planet Keeper does not seek to preserve any status quo. Our aim is to learn about the processes of life and of change so we can develop means to help man better adapt to his changing Earth. And perhaps learn how to stop man damaging our home, and develop a repair kit for when he does.

Planet Keeper seeks to develop the knowledge and the tools that will best enable mankind to manage the planet on which he is dependent for survival. This knowledge does not exist at present - at least, not amongst those who have the job of environmental management. Therefore our task is to find the how - to research how 'primitive' peoples managed their environmental resources, to research previous attempts at environmental management to see what trial-and-error has already revealed, and through iterative field research to establish just what works, and what doesn't. This is not computer simulation; this is in real life.

Planet Keeper aims to run environmental management research as a business. And cut the crap. Entirely private. Private funding, private land. No bureaucrats or politicians, so it actually can achieve something. Administration is limited to five percent of staff and resources. Everybody else is out working.

We are all about field research - finding real and best solutions, not working to support sponsor propaganda, not pandering to philosophies and prejudices. Not afraid to actually find solutions because that would mean the end of research funding.

Our task is global, our results of global benefit, so from the outset our operation is global. Our communications soon will be polylingual, to reach as many people as possible world-wide. We aim to have Planet Keeper agencies in every state in the world tasked to identify problem areas, to work with the global Planet Keeper resource network in developing research programs to study them, and once a solution is found, to lobby to have it implemented by the government of the day.

Planet Keeper's Mission:

To deliver research outcomes untainted by sponsor or other interests; to provide change management-focused radical solutions to help humanity adapt to global and local change and protect infrastructure assets; to deliver exceptional value to client governments and others.

Values:

Our culture is supported by strong inherent values that reflect our way. Our values are:

Lean and Agile - Minimise bureaucracy, demonstrate flexibility and strive to create a direct but 'blind' and sustainable client / researcher / creative outcomes developer relationship.

Challenge and Change - Challenge current practices to pioneer a better way, reward solution-finding, innovation and collaboration, and drive industry change to create a more attractive work, recreation and life environment.

Passion and Pace - Communicate our exciting vision for the future, surprise clients with rapid responses and over-the-odds delivery, strive for excellence, and be decisive.

Mutual Commitment - Send our people home safely, commit to leadership, create trusting relationships, and engage and respect communities to ensure a positive legacy. Take a 'no surprises' approach to doing business.

One Team - Drive collaboration between our international / national teams, business groups, clients and staff, and build trust through honesty, respect and integrity.

Our activities towards these ends include -

  • publicity and education on Planet Keeper aims and  activities to evangelise our mission and purpose

  • fundraising to generate seed-capital to start functioning, including soliciting charitable donations, government grants and contracts, private business and corporate no-strings sponsorships

  • recruitment of intelligent, appropriately skilled, educated and committed individuals -

    • to design and execute research programs,

    • to communicate our cause,

    • to record and optimise our developing knowledgebase resources and make these accessible globally,

    • to co-ordinate and administer operations,

    • to shape to thinking of government members, senior bureaucrats and other appropriate decision makers,

    • to conduct the ongoing commercially-based business of marketing scientific research on environment management to governments and responsible agencies

There will be more: please join us. Planet Keeper - and the Earth - need your help.
