NOBIS is from the Latin nos, meaning 'us', ourselves. It is the ablative case - by, with and for us. We seek to provide truly democratic and representative government for all; we seek to enfranchise all and to advance the interests of the greatest majority of Australians.

Democracy fails when those elected to government decide they are leaders instead of representatives. Some misuse their positions for money, some for the exercise of power. NOBIS is to be structured so that these things will not happen, or be quickly corrected if they do. We realise that no man-made thing is perfect.

Democracy fails when those elected abuse their position to corrupt public administration - as when Howard used the Industrial Relations budget for his blatant electoral propaganda.

Democracy fails when those elected fail to honour the groups who voted for them - as the Rudd Government is failing with the unemployed, underemployed and exploited.

Government fails when one individual dominates his peers - control of others lessens their individual responsibility and ability, as shown by the Liberals' power vacuum left by Howard on his demise.

Government is tyrannous when its actions are detrimental to the greater majority - as when the Howard Liberal Government abolished those labour benefits so hard-won over the past century, to such loss of well-being for so many.

Government is criminal when it turns its power against its people - and when it fails to prosecute members of previous governments for doing so.

NOBIS aspires to be the 'no bias, no baggage' mainstream political option of choice for all Australians at Federal and State levels.

We offer a viable option for Liberal and Labor voters disenchanted by the continuing poor quality of their candidates, out-of-date philosophies and policies, compromised organisations, and flawed track records. Our policies and overall platform should attract these people by catering for balance of both the 'people' and the prosperity aspects of life. But ex-Liberals please note this - we live in a community, not in an economy.

We seek to bring followers of the previous Democrats into our fold, attracted by our policies of social justice and our stance of highest integrity.

We seek to win Green supporters to our banner by our policies and by being a mainstream, full spectrum rather than a special issue party. Only in this way is there promise of effective and appropriate environmental action rather than playing makeweight by supporting Labor's numbers in return for an occasional compromised tit-bit.

Our objective is true well-being for all Australians. We seek to achieve this -

  • through ensuring excellent standards in education, health and public services provision;

  • through supporting private enterprise in generating a high level of national prosperity and ensuring that everybody who wants to work can do so;

  • through protecting the rights of all Australians to live without fear of attack, extortion or bullying by individuals, corporations or public agencies;

  • through prioritising environmental protection at home and globally, taking innovative, radical approaches; and

  • through cushioning the effects of global oil price fluctuations through innovative fiscal strategies.
