Omnipotentia.com recognises Government as both friend and foe in the quest for cheap and non-polluting energy for everybody.

It is a friend in that it operates schemes such as those to abate CO₂, and it regulates to limit  CO₂ emissions by imposing fines for excess production.

It is a foe in that Government is very susceptible to manipulation by the 'big' end of town. Those enormously wealthy corporations that profit from extracting or burning coal or oil will want to continue doing so until the last lump and drop are used - change costs money, and profits don't like costs.

They pay lobbyists to push their case to legislators, and they pay 'cash for comment' to unscrupulous media people to propagandise the masses. Massive advertising budgets persuade publishers to gag critical stories by their journalists. When they bankroll a key legislator's electoral funding they don't do so out of 'corporate good citizenship' or public spirit, as is their claim - but we know there are few backs unscratched between Government and Big Money.

The Australian government in an unholy alliance with the coalminers and power companies seized without compensation the carbon credits for every tree in Australia. Farmers are forbidden to clear their land and are going broke because of it - and they don't even get paid the market price for the carbon credits for the trees on their farms. more
