Freedom PressThe CLA is sponsoring development of a nationwide new media venture to be named Freedom Press. This is to be a web-based initiative which will capture news-worthy stories at local level through the land, and enable these to be published on their merits. The reason for taking this action is because corporate interests are stifling the true news functions of the media in order to conceal their depredations, corruption of public officials and outright thefts. The corporate 'news rooms' substitute mindless crap about movie stars and sports personalities' lives in place of meaningful news and public information These practices are both denying us all our right to know what is happening, and wiping out what was - at least once - an honourable and intelligent profession. Here's Doonesbury's as-usual acerbic take on today's 'journalism' -
In order for these volunteers to have some more tangible reward than feeling good about contributing to the national well-being, the volunteers will be stipended out of advertising revenues from local businesses which will appear on all Freedom News webpages accessed by readers in their area. For a sample of what the Freedom Press might look like, click here. But don't take this as gospel - the real thing will need a huge navigation/architecture development, more photos and space for ads. It might even come to look like this. |
